These are the 2026–27 thresholds published by GOV.UK and HMRC. The calculator applies the relevant percentage to earnings above the applicable annual or pay-period threshold and rounds the deduction down to the nearest whole pound.
How this calculator works
- Plan 1, 2, 4 or 5: 9% of earnings above that plan's threshold.
- Postgraduate Loan: 6% of earnings above £21,000 a year, or the corresponding pay-period threshold.
- Two loan types: the calculator adds the Student Loan and Postgraduate Loan deductions when both are selected.
- Plan choice: you select the plan yourself. The calculator does not infer a plan from location.
Planning estimate: Actual payroll deductions can differ because of pay-period handling, bonuses, multiple employers, Self Assessment, or other payroll circumstances.
